Abstract
Public service motivation is a significant reason for law enforcement to serve the community. Additionally, when enforcement officers consider themselves legitimate, they believe that their actions are endorsed by society and grounded in legal and ethical values. The present study investigates the impact of public service motivation and self-legitimacy on the job satisfaction of law enforcement personnel, considering the mediating role of person-environment fit. This research is applied, descriptive-correlational, and survey-based. The statistical population of this study comprises the personnel of the Law Enforcement Force of Isfahan City. In this study, 150 individuals were selected as the sample based on convenience sampling. Data were collected using a standard questionnaire, whose validity was confirmed through the calculation of content, convergent, and divergent validity, and its reliability was verified using Cronbach's alpha and composite reliability. The structural equation modeling approach and Smart PLS 3.0 software were used for statistical analysis. Public service motivation has a positive and significant impact on the job satisfaction of law enforcement personnel and person-environment fit. Additionally, self-legitimacy and person-environment fit also positively and significantly impact job satisfaction. Moreover, public service motivation has a positive and significant indirect impact on job satisfaction through the mediating role of person-environment fit. As a guideline for human resource managers, paying attention to individual motivations, self-legitimacy, and creating a reasonable fit between the individual and the work environment can improve the job satisfaction of law enforcement personnel.
